Peek360: Remote Perv Cam or Virtual Real Estate Tool?

I'm not quite sure what to make of Avatrian's Peek360. You enter the coordinates of a location in Second Life, a brief description and your email address and, if things are working right, about 10 - 20 minutes later you get a link to a virtual 360° view around the coordinates. The results are embedded Flash clips that are pretty damn good. I'm not sure how they pull this off technically (hey I'm only semi-literate on this) or whether it can go into private access regions, but it was fun to play with. Here are two clips from inside my house in Second Life.

View from downstairs (yes it's underwater)

View from upstairs.

So what would you do with something like this? Spy on your neighbors remotely? Create virtual tours for selling real estate in Second Life? Make people dizzy sick from watching them?

  1. Hi Snickers! First off I would like to thank you for trying out our app. :) First, I'll address the concerns. The app will not work on sims that are: a) non-accessible to the public, b) have "no-scripts allowed" set, and c) sims that have specifically banned our bot, named "Paparazzi Artful". Thus, there is no need to be paranoid.

When the real world camera was invented, what did you think people thought about it? Naturally, the more perverse will have thought up of things that other people wouldn't, and the more thoughtful ones who really clamored a tool for improving the quality of life, actually did something revolutionary with that tool, that it changed society. Right now, SL users are thinking of ways it can help the education and learning sectors and other areas that are in need of ways to instantly get non-SL users a peek into what's going on inside SL, and perhaps entice them to finally join up and see the potentials of the world for their disciplines.

  2. Thanks for the info Rodion! I hope you took my post in the lighter tone it was intended. You might consider putting a FAQ or something on your website to cover some of the natural questions people might have. :)
